Independence Day

Happy 4th of July weekend!

We keep it safe (and cheap) by doing it up this way:

~We set up camp in the back yard - we have a fire ring, so the weekend is spent "camping" in tents and eating over the fire!

~we volunteer with different groups to place flags in the yards of our neighbors - and get free flag t-shirts for doing so! This is a great family activity, as we explain to the kids the history of independence day and the importance of the flag, etc as we walk and "plant" flags.

~we have a family picnic. Bring a dish to pass.....this is always a hit with the kids, as they get to spend the evening playing with cousins, trying new food, swimming and riding "gators" and "wheelers."

~we attend our city's fireworks - no out-of-pocket expense!

~we also like to wait until the "day of" or "day or so after" to buy any labeled 4th of July apparel or merchandise - usually at a deeply discounted price! - and then save it for the next year's celebration - makes for some cheap centerpieces, arts and crafts, pictures w/matching shirts, etc!

What do YOU do on the fourth?

  1. I like the idea of waiting until the day after to shop for holiday-related items. We might have to do that on Monday.

  2. Sounds like fun! We love to camp, and I'm sad that we haven't gotten to get out yet this year.
