We love making calzones at home. When our local bakery has their pizza dough on sale, we like to buy a few extra (and freeze them).
| First cheese on w/toppings! |
*roll your favorite (home-made or store bought) pizza dough into a circle - or a square - pretty much anything will work!
*put cheese on the bottom center of one half
*add other toppings on top of cheese
*sprinkle more cheese on top of toppings
*fold over and "roll" edges
*put on greased baking pan or pizza stone
*bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until browned
*dip in marinara sauce, spaghetti sauce or ranch dressing!
The reason behind the two layers of cheese: if you put the cheese down first, then the toppings and top with one more layer of cheese then the cheese melts into everything and holds all the toppings together!
Using one whole pizza crust makes this enough for two adults - hubby and I usually share one! If you are making these for kids, then divide the dough into quarters and follow the same steps.....these freeze well and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
